I have a good Vienna case and have located a super movement, however the pendulum needs to be about 1" shorter than at present, if I increase the weight of the bob (entirely possible) will this compensate for the shortening of the pendulum.

Thanks in advance

NO.

Timekeeping depends on the length of the pendulum not the width or weight

Your stuffed unless you can lengthen the case LOL.

When you go for a one that fits ask the seller to measure from the centre shaft holding the hands to the bottom of the pendulum - assembled.
That way you will know if it will fit your case because you will measure the same points on the case and allow half an inch clearance from the bottom.

Example - you probably have an arched part on the front of the case. So your dial diameter might be 7 and a half inches (your diameter matters and may be different). That's obviously 3 and a quarter from the top of the case front arch center to where the center shaft would normally be.
So measure from this top part of the arch to the bottom of the case - mine is about 28 inches. Minus 3 and 3/4 inches = 24 and 1/4 inches free space.

Hope this helps.
