Post subject: westminster chime is slow
Hi,
I had to disassemble my 1994 Howard Miller G.F. clock for a year while we did a remodel on our home. When we put it back together I noticed that the clock still chimes, the hammers sound and speed are the same as before, although the westminster "melody" plays reeeaallly slow. Sometimes I wonder if it is going to make it through the melody! The weights are placed in the correct order and the clock is pretty level and sits on carpet....any ideas out there? I am thinking maybe it needs to be oiled??
Thank you,
Lori

If the heaviest weight is on the chime side and the bushings are all oiled properly, it should chime at a normal speed. There are a lot of gears turning on the chime portion of the movement, requiring more weight and good lubrication. Otherwise, you may have bushing problems.

Thank you...I kinda figured it might need to be oiled and probably serviced too. I appreciate the feedback

Most likely, it'll need a little more than just oiling. Probably a cleaning. Did the remodel include raising any drywall dust?

Yes, we had all kinds of dust in the air mostly from tearing a wall down. Maybe I should just get a professional out to give it a good workover??
