Post subject: What company currently makes the best floor clocks?
My husband has wanted a large mechanical movement floor/granfather clock for a long time and is finally looking around. There seem to be 3 or 4 major companies making these nowadays, does anyone have opinions on the different manufacturers? Thank you!

Unfortunately, I can not vouch for other companies’ quality (being a proud employee of Klockit). However, if you should require any additional information in regard to Klockit products, please feel free to contact me through this forum. I am a technician for kit and plan products and I would be happy to answer any specific merchandise questions that you may have.

Bear in mind that all companies making floor clocks today are first and foremost furniture manufacturers. All of them, without exception, use movements manufactured by other firms to install in their clock cases.
There are only two movement makers still in business today that manufacture top quality clock movements. They are Kieninger and Hermle. For reference, movements made by those two companies can be found in Klockit's clock movement catalog.

There have been a lot of changes in the clock industry in the last few years. Although at one time no clockmaker in the US owned their own movement company. Today that is not true. Hermle clocks purchased numerous portions of clock making aspects of the business. the purchase the Emperor clock company, (clock kits) grandfather, wall & mantel. They also purchased Urgos movement works and moved it to the US a few years ago. They sell a large line of Grandfather clocks , walls and mantels.
Howard Miller has purchased Kieninger movement company a number of years back, and most recently purchased Ridgeway clocks fom Pulaski Furniture. Miller uses its own Kieninger clock movement in its own clocks. So we have only 2 main players in the clock industry today. All others do use Hermle movements, and Miller uses it own movements. The hermle company has an easy access to parts and movements, kieninger is just a little harder to get parts when needed.

Sorry Maggie - - The question is in regard to floor clocks - not wall clocks.

If you can find a sligh grandfather somewhere, they did the best case in my opinion, bulova has done ok with all thier plans since Sligh sold it to them. Like most people said, it is a horse a piece on the movements as there are just the big two and they are very comparable. Look for a case you like and a sound you like, go from there.
