I have a King Atrhur G.Father clock made in the late 1970's early 80's. I recently got it from my Mother and put it in my house . I noticed that it chimes 12 times at the 11 o'clock hour. I inadvertantly did not pay attention which weight went where when I replaced them after moving the clock. I have the lightest weight in the center and the 2 heavy weights on the sides . Is this the problem or is there a way to adjust the amount of chimeing ? I'm open for suggestions.

Synchronizing the chime could be as simple as removing the hour hand and re-mounting it at the time which corresponds to the chime strike (for example: If you hear eleven strikes after the chime melody, then you would re-mount the hour hand at eleven o’clock). From this point, you can set the clock to the current (proper) time. To remove the hour hand, you would first have to remove the cap nut and the longer minute hand. Make certain you do not loose the cap nut.

In regard to weights, I do know that certain weights are designated for certain pulley cables/chains. With Hermle clock movements we sell, I know that the heaviest weight should be mounted on the right pulley cable/chain (as you face the front surface of the movement). There is typically only one heavier weight with Hermle movements (the other two weigh less, but are characteristically equivalent to each other).

I believe that the movement used in a King Arthur case was a Hermle movement - but I am not 100% certain. Therefore, you should make every effort to identify the manufacturer of the movement within your case for verification. In most cases, the manufacturer name/model number/etc is etched/stamped on the rear plate of the movement itself.

Thanks Chris : Since I posted this the "owners manual was found in a file cabinet at my Mother's house ( a miracle in it's self) It answered all my questions . The lightest weight goes on the left as you face the clock and the other two are the same weight , so this bears out what you were saying exactly. As far as syncronizing the chimes ,it dawned on me that some one probably had run the hands backward for daylight saveings time ,so I ran the hour hand forward and that did the trick . Then went thru the hours (quarter at a time ) letting it chime . Seems to be working fine now and keeping perfect time the last 4-5 hours . Thanks for the input .
