hello.... i have a desk clock that has a young town movement in it. the number on the movement id 12888 i want to replace it with another movement. the diameter of the clock is approx. 3 1/8" the hands are approx. 1"and 3/4" long. the shaft length is approx. 1/4" and the thickness is approx 1/2" do i have to get a movement that is designed for a 3 1/8" clock and the short hands? what can i do to get this clock operational? the original movement was attached by two screws that opposed each other in the corners. and had 4 wires soldered onto it. it was powered by 4 aa batteries. i believe that two of the batts. operated the sound that the b17 bomber that is mounted on the clock makes and the remaining batteries operate the clock. what do you recommend that i do to replace the movement?

It sounds as though your quartz movement was a "trigger"-type movement. The quartz movement would trigger (via wires) the B17 bomber to sound at the top of the hour. The movement itself is probably not responsible for the sound, it just sends an electric impulse to the "sound box" to initiate the B17 bomber sound.

I am curious if you could make #12268 work for you as a replacement. The quartz movement included with the 12268 is a "trigger"-style movement.

You would not be required to use all parts shown. Instead, I would think that you would only use the Quartz movement itself (clipping the wires so that those wires may be soldered onto the wires coming from your chime box). While I can not guarantee this will work, this would be the type of movement that would trigger a separate component to play a certain sound at the top of every hour. Of course, you would also need to verify all dimensional information to see if it could be a suitable replacement.

Also note that a longer shaft length version of this movement will be available after August 1, 2010. Hope this helps!
